Annual Meetings of National Reference Laboratories for Molluscs Diseases

The EURL has to organise annual meetings for the European National Reference Laboratories. Aims of the meeting are to :

  • Provide most recent information about the health status of molluscs (picture) in the EU and neighbouring countries (accessing countries),
  • Collate material concerning the results of diagnosis and surveys regarding Bonamia ostreae and Marteilia refringens presence in the Member States,
  • Give information about the results of studies undergoing within the network of the National Reference Laboratories,
  • Give technical views on the revision of the current legislation,
  • Prepare the future work of the EURL.
The 2015 Annual Meeting of National Reference Laboratories for Mollusc Diseases was held in Saintes on the 16th and 17th of March 2015 and was followed by the 10th Technical Workshop in La Tremblade, on 18th and 19th of March 2015. In total, 44 participants from 21 countries (Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Montenegro, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands and United-Kingdom) and one representative from DG for Health and Food Safety (European Commission) attended the meeting.

The Annual Meeting included six sessions:

  1. Current epidemiological situation in the Member States
  2. Legislation 
  3. New occurrences of mollusc pathogens in EU 
  4. Parasites of the genus Mikrocytos 
  5. Vibrio spp.  
  6. EURL day life activities

The technical workshop concerned the isolation and detection of Vibrio aestuarianus by Real Time PCR. It also included a session on the histological observation of oysters infected with V. aestuarianus and OsHV-1µVar.
